U.S. launched a missile with a reconnaissance satellite
Almaty. October 16. Silkroadnews - U.S. launched a missile with a reconnaissance satellite, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference to RBC.
According to the publication, launch of a classified U.S. spy satellite on a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket was carried out from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
As noted on the ULA site, the launch of Atlas V with an American reconnaissance satellite will be the 74th flight of this type of missile.
ULA is the main supplier of missile technology for the U.S. Department of Defense. Previous launch of the Atlas V with the NROL-42 satellite for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office took place from the Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, on September 24.
The purpose of NROL-42 is to detect potential threats to the United States. According to the SpaceFlight portal, the satellite is equipped with infrared sensors to detect and track missile launches.
