Ukraine more captivated by politics, than by economics, than by public prosperity – President Nazarbayev

Moscow. April 28. Silkroadnews – “As the whole world is talking about Ukraine these days, I cant help but touch upon this issue. You know that I used to study in Ukraine when I was young. The denity of Ukrainian people has aways been close to my heart and I am not nonchalant about it now”, President Nazarbayev noticed during his guest lecture at Moscow State University.
President said his heart hurts when he sees what is happening in Ukraine these days.
He reminded that Ukraine used to have second best industrial potential in the former USSR.
“She [Ukraine] had many more opportunities for confident independent development, than other republics to begin with. However, over the two decades of independence this country, unfortunately, was not very much engaged in economics, in prosperity of ordinary people, they were much more captivated with politics. I consider this to be the main reason behind the current crisis in Ukraine”, Kazakh President said.
“The second republic of the Soviet Union is now 35% behind Kazakhstan when it comes to its economic volume. We sincerely wish the fastest recovery, stability, understanding and unity for Ukrainian people. No matter what happens, Ukraine would always benefit from relations with us: either with Russia, with Kazakhstan or any other CIS country”, President Nazarbayev thinks.
Talking about this, Kazakh President called for remembering about this and “not running ahead of one-selves too much when making political statements and decisions”
