Ukraine set to leave CIS

Kiev. May 27. Silkroadnews – Ukraine launches the process to leave the Commonwealth of Independent States, as UkrInform reports.
“National Security and Defence Council has decided not only to stop chairmanship in the CIS, but also to launch the process to leave the CIS”, the Council’s Secretary, Andriy Parubiy, is quoted as saying.
Moreover, it was decided to work out a plan for joint military exercises of Ukrainian army forces and the country security guarantors. The subsequent request to the allies, which are the country’s security guarantor’s, has already been prepared, as Andriy Parubiy added.
Ukraine has decided to stop its rotating CIS chairmanship for the year of 2014 on the 19th of March. The Ukrainian MFA then stated that CIS proved dysfunctional as a conflict resolution tool for member countries. It also stated that the CIS turned into “the tool that enables certain member-countries to pursue their interests, including the Russian Federation”.
In April, Belarus expressed its readiness to take over the rotating CIS chairmanship.
