UN and NATO to fund Afghan security forces $1 billion till 2020
Almaty. July 11. Silkroadnews – Total volume of financing the Afghan security forces through NATO and UN funds shall be kept at the current level of $1 billion at least until 2020, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) reports with reference to the official in the North Atlantic Alliance.
“The international community plans to continue financial support to the Afghan national security forces,” he said and added the funds will be allocated until the end of 2020.
According to the source, currently two trust funds of the UN and NATO receives for these purposes around $1 billion annually.
“The aim for the future is to proceed with funding at the same or comparable level,” he added.
To remind, the U.S. allocates directly more than $3.5 billion a year for Afghan security forces support. In its turn Afghanistan plans to raise its contribution from the current $500 million as the economic situation improves.
