UN notes an increase in the number of drug trafficking routes from Afghanistan over the world

Almaty. June 29. Silkroadnews -The increase in the number of drug trafficking routes from Afghanistan across the world stated the regional representative of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (ODC) Ashita Mittal, reports AfTAG.
"In addition to the traditional routes to Africa and America through European region, in recent years, increased the flow to the Pacific region, Oceania" ,- said A. Mittal during the presentation of the report of the UNODC for the Central Asian region "Drug Situation 2014" in Almaty on Monday .
According to her, Afghanistan is still the leader in the production of drugs in the region, which threatens the security of the Central Asian states in the economic, social and cultural aspects.
"In 2013-2014, increased the production of drugs in Afghanistan, compared to previous years. During 2014, Afghanistan produced 6.4 thousand tons of opium, in 2013 the figure was 5.5 thousand tonnes, an increase made 17%. The total area under opium poppy cultivation in 2014 exceeded all previous records and reached 224 thousand hectares, which is 7% more than in 2013", - stated A. Mittal.
