UN Security Council held emergency meeting on DPRK’s hydrogen bomb test

Almaty. September 5. Silkroadnews – The UN Security Council held emergency meeting on another nuclear test by the DPRK, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference to the UN News Center.
Speaking to council members, Jeffrey Feltman, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, called the test “a dangerous provocation”.
J. Feltman stressed that, in opinion of the UN Head Antonio Guterres, this move is another serious violation of the DPRK’s international commitments undermining the international community’s efforts on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, the statement released on Monday reads.
The Secretary-General expects the Security Council members to be in lockstep on the issue and take the necessary measures. The response to the DPRK’s provocation should include “reasonable and courageous” diplomatic steps, J. Feltman added.
The Under-Secretary-General also stated on behalf of the UN head that humanitarian tasks should not go to the background, regardless of the political situation. The population of the DPRK relies on assistance of the international community.
As previously reported, the DPRK announced the successful testing of a nuclear warhead for intercontinental ballistic missile.
