Unlike Iran the US does not fulfill its obligations under a nuclear deal

Almaty. July 17. Silkroadnews – The United States, unlike Iran, does not fulfill its obligations under the nuclear deal, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in interview with CNN, IrTAG reports.
“The United States, unlike Iran, does not fulfill its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear program”, M.J. Zarif said.
According to him, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has already verified seven times that Iran implemented the deal faithfully, fully and completely.
“When concluding the deal, we agreed the IAEA to be the only structure to monitor its implementation. And at the moment the IAEA has already stated 7 times that Iran honestly and fully fulfills its obligations”, Iranian Foreign Minister stressed.
He noted, the same cannot be said about the US.
“A few days ago the White House said the US President Donald Trump uses his visit to Hamburg for the G20 summit to convince the leaders of other countries not to deal business with Iran”, Iranian Foreign Minister said.
In his opinion, such actions by the US are “a violation not of the spirit but of the letter of the agreement”.
“I believe the United States has to comply with its part of the obligations under the deal,” he said adding that the agreement “does not prohibit Iran from developing a peaceful nuclear program”.
In response to a comment that some US lawmakers propose toughening sanctions against Iran, Iranian minister also noted that Iran considers nuclear weapons as a threat to its security, but not an asset.
“We used to state earlier and state now that we not implement a program for mass destruction weapons development. The IAEA confirmed the absence of a nuclear component in our program for the peaceful assimilation of atomic energy and decided to move beyond. I believe in this case someone wants to instill fear”, Zarif explained.
According to him, Iran was a victim to use of chemical weapons, yet never used it itself. “Iran had such opportunities, but decided not to follow the path of developing weapons of mass destruction, as it not only contradicts our ideology, but does not add anything to our security”, Iranian foreign minister explained.
“Nuclear weapons are more likely to endanger our security than become an asset in the field of protection”, he stressed.
To remind, in July 205 Iran and the P5+1 reached a historic agreement on the Iranian atom issue settlement. The long negotiations have resulted in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) allowing Iran to receive earlier imposed economic and financial sanctions of the UN Security Council, the United States and the European Union.
