US, Japan, India and Australia can unite to counter China’s Belt and Road
Beijing. February 20. Silkroadnews - The United States, Japan, India and Australia can unite to create an alternative to China’s Belt and Road initiative and resist Beijing’s growing influence, CNBC reported.
Reportedly, the plan was a part of the agenda for meeting of Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull with President Donald Trump later this week, however, the plan development is under the process and will not be made public before the heads of Australia and the US discuss it.
The countries mentioned consider the Belt and Road initiative as Beijing’s strive to grow world influence.
The alternative associations have been discussed since last year. For example, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson spoke in favor of closer cooperation between the United States and India to counter China’s strategy during his official visit to New Delhi in October 2017.
The United States also insists on resuming negotiations with Japan, India and Australia to deepen cooperation in the field of security and coordination of actions alternative to the Belt and Road initiative. In November last year these four countries held talks on this issue on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit and East Asia.
