Beijing. March 13. Silkroadnews - The U.S. has sharply reduced the number of combat operations that have been carried out from Turkey’s Incirlik air base and are considering the possibility of reducing the number of personnel stationed there on a permanent basis, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
In January, a squadron of A-10 ground-attack jets was relocated from Incirlik base to Afghanistan. Gradually, the number of families of American servicemen on the territory of the base is decreasing. Now the U.S. has F-22 Raptor and F-15 Eagle jet fighters, as well as refueling planes, at Incirlik. According to the U.S. military representative, the issue of reducing the use of the Turkish air base has been under consideration for some time.
The tension in the relations between Ankara and Washington is connected with the fact that Turkey is seriously concerned about the support the United States provides the Syrian Kurds with.
On January 20, the Turkish Armed Forces announced the beginning of an operation against Kurdish organization, which Ankara considers as the terrorist ones and which is supported by the U.S., in the Syrian district of Afrin, home to about 1.5 million Syrian Kurds.
