Beijing. May 23. Silkroadnews - The US will apply secondary sanctions against Iran, meaning the restrictions directed against foreign partners of those Iranians whose names have been included into the US black lists, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports referring to US Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin speaking at the United States Senate Committee on Appropriations.
He reminded the senators that US President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal, which imposed restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear activities in exchange for lifting the sanctions of the UN Security Council and unilateral restrictive measures imposed earlier by the US and EU.
According to Trump’s order, the Secretary of State and the head of the Treasury must immediately start taking steps aimed at the resumption of all restrictions “lifted or suspended in accordance” due to the nuclear agreement. This will affect the oil and economic sector. In addition, since August 6, Iran’s imports of carpets and foods into the US will be stopped. 180 days after the announcement by Trump, sanctions will affect Iran’s port operators, vessels and shipbuilding industry.
