Almaty. November 25. Silkroadnews - Since 2015, US troops in Afghanistan will not conduct operations against the movement "Taliban", the agency TASS.
White House spokesman Josh Ernest confirmed this on Monday at a regular press briefing",- says the agency.
According to the representative of the White House, the problem of US troops will be "focused on training and equipping the Afghan security forces and conducting targeted counterterrorism operations against the remnants of "al-Qaeda".
However, he told journalists that "there is a difference between the Taliban and "Al Qaeda".
"Compared to the 2014 year difference is that the US military will not conduct specific operations against members of the "Taliban" simply because they are members of the "Taliban".  Any US military combat operations will be carried out either to protect their own forces, or for the pursuit of the remnants "of al-Qaeda", or other similar extremists who interact with "al-Qaeda" and represent a significant threat to the national territory of the United States or to US interests around the world",-  said Ernest.
At the briefing, journalists were interested in the topic of protection of their own forces. According to them, at the time of the announcement of US plans for Afghanistan, it was not enough to clearly articulate that gave rise to various speculations. White House spokesman was asked, in particular, whether authorized by US President Barack Obama has air cover for those forces that remain in Afghanistan.
In response, a spokesman for primarily emphasized that no "secret order" on this account exists, and all the press reports about it "greatly exaggerated". According to him, there is a "routine process of policy-making", whose meaning remains the same: the US military is authorized to use "all that they need to protect themselves".
