Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency signed a loan agreement for 23.5 million euro

Almaty. December 27. Silkroadnews – The first loan agreement between the French Development Agency (FDA) and the Republic of Uzbekistan got signed, UzTAG informs.

A 23.5 million euro’s loan agreement was signed in the framework of the financing of the solid waste management modernization project in Samarkand.

This funding is also added by a €8 million subsidy from the European Union provided as a loan by the Investment Fund for Central Asia (IFCA).

The project is directed to build efficient and sustainable integrated management of household waste in Samarkand to operate in compliance with the best practices and international standards.

The project covers the financing of all the works and the whole waste management chain, including waste collection, processing and recycling (in particular the project involves the construction and repair of 200 collection points, purchase of 70 waste collection vehicles, construction of the center for sorting of municipal solid wastes and their disposal, as well as installation for processing of biogas emitted in a waste landfill).

Besides, the project provides for training of specialists, provision of institutional assistance to hokimiat of Samarkand and urban enterprise “Marokand Obod” specializing in waste collection, as well as activities to inform and educate the population on the waste management.
