Uzbekistan declared amnesty for almost 52,5 thousand convicts

Almaty. March 5. Silkroadnews - amnesty at the end of 2014 in connection with the 22th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Uzbekistan, was applied in respect of 52,498 convicts, transfers UzTAG.
"Over the past three months, after the entry of Act into the force - 3289 people were released from penal institutions, for the rest was reduced the term of imprisonment, the left were extempt from criminal prosecution", - said a spokesman for the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abid.
In accordance with the decision of the Senate of the Parliament of Uzbekistan, exemption from punishment is provided in relation to women, first-time conviction for an offense, thouse who at the time of the crime had not reached 18 years, men who have reached the age of 60 and foreign nationals.
According to the order of the President of Uzbekistan, the right to decide the amnesty is left behind Senate from January 2005. Earlier this act was the exclusive prerogative of the President.
