Uzbekistan does not support the construction of hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan

Almaty. August 3. Silkroadnews - Uzbek Foreign Ministry issued a statement, which recalled the country's position on the construction of the Rogun hydropower station in Tajikistan, informed the agency UzTAG.
Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported that the Uzbek side previously stated its principle position during the meeting of representatives of the governments of Central Asian countries on the discussion of draft report of the World Bank "Key issues for further consideration of the proposed Rogun project" and the issues of transboundary water resources.
The head of the Uzbek delegation on behalf of his country's government expressed unsatisfactory on conclusions of the examination the World Bank for the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power station, and noted non-compliance of the examination to generally accepted international standards, as well as threat of the construction to the ecological balance of the whole region of Central Asia.
In conclusion, he noted that Uzbekistan "will never, under any circumstances, provide support to this project".
