Uzbekistan may reduce by a third the maximum prison terms for women and older
Almaty. June 30. Silkroadnews - Legislative (lower) house of mazhilsa Oliy (parliament) of Uzbekistan approved a law on the reduction by a third of the maximum terms of criminal punishment for women and older people, reports UzTAG.
As stated, the law "On Amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was adopted in the first reading. The amendments providing for changes in Article 50 ("Imprisonment") of the Criminal Code provide a reduction of the maximum term of punishment sentenced to imprisonment for men aged over 60 years and for women with three-quarters of the maximum term of imprisonment of up to two-thirds of the period stipulated by the relevant articles of the Criminal Code.
It is clarified that the amendment provided for the state program "Year of attention and care for the older generation" is approved by the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the beginning of 2015. The law submitted for adoption by the Senate of the Parliament.
