Uzbekistan proposes to establish Islamic research center under the aegis of the OIC

Almaty. October 18. Silkroadnews – Uzbekistan proposes to create in Samarkand an international Islamic Research Center under the aegis of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Trend reports.

“We propose to create in Samarkand the International Islamic Research Center under the aegis of the OIC to study the heritage of the Islamic world’s scientists and thinkers”, Acting President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said speaking at the opening of the 43rd session of the OIC in Tashkent.

According to him, creation of such a center is one of the priorities for the Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

S. Mirziyoyev reminded that such prominent Islamic figures as Muhammad al-Bukhari, At-Tirmidhi, Al-Biruni, al-Khwarizmi, al-Maturidi and many others lived in the territory of Uzbekistan.

Among the priorities of the country’s chairmanship in the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers S. Mirziyoyev also said about the development of cultural and educational dialogue, scientific and technical, trade and investment cooperation between the OIC member countries, as well as joint efforts to combat the ideology of terrorism and extremism.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was established in September 1969 and unites 57 countries, being the largest and most influential official governmental Muslim international organization.
