Uzbekistan to introduce government-issued ID and foreign passports

Almaty. January 20. Silkroadnews – Uzbekistan plans to cancel the exit visa’s stickers and introduce government-issued ID and foreign passports, Uzbek Telegraph Agency (UzTAG) reports.

According to the decree of the President of Uzbekistan on the state’s development strategy for 2017-2021, the authorities should prepare appropriate proposals on this issue in the third quarter of this year.

The project provides to introduce procedure to issue the government-issued ID and foreign passports, with cancellation of the exit visa’s sticker to travel abroad. The court injunctions on travelling abroad is also expected to be implemented on specific, defined by the legislation, basis.

The document assumes simplification of passport control system at the airports and at stations by implementing modern ICT data processing, automated passport control booths and system for checking the persons crossing the border against the list of persons on the wanted list.

It is also planned to introduce the dual-channel system for individuals in the areas of customs control.

The implementation of these measures, the document says, will serve to create facilities for citizens traveling abroad, enhance the protection of their rights and freedoms, improve and enhance the effectiveness of border control authorities’ operation, thus, contribute to the development of tourism.
