Washington is ready to take part in peace talks in Afghanistan
Beijing. Jul 10. Silkroadnews - The U.S. authorities are ready to contribute to and take part in the peace talks between the Afghan authorities and the Taliban members, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports following the talks of the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
“The United States will support, facilitate, and participate in these peace discussions, but peace must be decided by the Afghans and settled among them. We expect that these peace talks will include a discussion of the role of international actors and forces,” TASS quoted Mike Pompeo saying.
This is his first official visit to Kabul since he became the head of the State Department. On Monday he arrived with an unannounced visit for security reasons. From Kabul he is expected to leave for Abu Dhabi (UAE).
