Washington threatens sanctions for cooperation with Iran
Beijing. July 2. Silkroadnews - Washington intends to impose restrictions on EU companies for violating the U.S. sanctions against Iran, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports referring to the U.S. President’s interview with Fox News.
When asked if he intends to impose sanctions on EU companies in case they conduct business with Iran, he said “Yes, of course. That’s what we’re doing. Absolutely.”
To remind, in May, Trump declared withdrawal of Washington from the nuclear deal with Tehran and promised both to return the previous sanctions and introduce the new ones. He also stated, the U.S. are ready to conclude a new deal instead of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), yet, at the same time, set forth further demands that knew could not be met by Iran.
In turn, Britain, Germany and France called on all the Iran deal participants to continue to uphold the deal. Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran will not abandon the JCPOA and continue to respect its commitments. The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that Moscow was disappointed with Washington’s move and called the White House head’s decision a smokescreen to settle the scores with Iran.
