Almaty. July 11. Silkroadnews – The White House apologized to China for misidentification of Xi Jinping in the transcript of Donald Trump’s speech at the G20 summit, Chinese news portal China Daily reported.
“The United States apologized to China for the mistake made while identifying the position of President Xi Jinping in the transcript”, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said on Monday. According to him, China raised this issue with the US, the United States side apologized and said this was a technical error that has already been corrected”, the report said.
It is explained that on Saturday the White House released a transcript of Xi Jinping’s meeting with US President Donald Trump during the G20 summit. However, in the transcript Xi Jinping was identified as “President of the Republic of China” instead of “President of the People’s Republic of China”.
After the issue raised, the White House corrected the wording for “the president of China”. Wang Dong, associate professor in the School of International Studies at Peking University, suggests the mistake was not intentional, yet revealed a low level of knowledge of the White House staff.
“This demonstrates a lack of professionalism in the field of diplomacy on the White House staff side”, professor believes.
