World Bank to allocate $70 million to develop irrigation in Afghanistan

Almaty. August 26. Silkroadnews – The World Bank has allocated $70 million to repair and develop Afghanistan's irrigation systems, AfTAG reports.

The funds will be allocated as a part of grant started in 2010-2011. The project funding is supposed to be prolonged till 2020.

The World Bank representative reaffirmed the readiness of the organization to cooperate with Afghanistan in the future.

According to AfTAG, deforestation in a number of regions of Afghanistan during the civil war has resulted in serious climate deterioration, including soil degradation, destructive floods and droughts.
