World Bank will allocate $38 million to mitigate the consequences of the Aral crisis

Almaty. November 4. Silkroadnews - World Bank will allocate $38 million to finance the first phase of the "Program for adaptation and mitigation of climate change in the Aral Sea basin" (CAMP4ASB), reported UzTAG.
According to the WB, $14 million will be allocated to Uzbekistan, $9 million - to Tajikistan and $15 million - for the implementation of regional activities to be undertaken by the executive committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, with the support of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia.
This decision was approved by the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank yesterday. Money allocated from the International Development Association.
The other countries of Central Asia are under preparation for accession to participate in this program over the next two years.
The program will strengthen the base of information about the risks of climate change, as well as provide financial and technical assistance to rural communities in projects that take into account climatic factors in the sectors that are a priority for the countries of Central Asia.
