Almaty. January 19. Silkroadnews – Chinese President Xi Jinping declared to come out for a total ban of nuclear weapons, RBC writes.

“Nuclear weapons should be completely prohibited and destroyed over time to make the world free of nuclear weapons”, Xi Jinping said in his speech at the United Nations in Geneva.

Speaking about China’s aims in relations with the US and Russia he specifically said about building a “new model” of relations with the United States and “strategic partnership” with Moscow.

“We will strive to build new model of major country relations with the United States, a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination with Russia, a partnership for peace, growth, reform and among different civilizations and a partnership of unity and cooperation with BRICS countries”, he said.

“We always put people’s rights and interests above everything else”, Xi Jinping also noted having added “China will never seek expansion, hegemony or sphere of influence”.

“Big countries should treat smaller countries as equals instead of acting as a hegemon, imposing their will on others”, Chinese leader said.

Speaking at the United Nations he, as noted, set out to “emphasize the intention of China to committ to building a world of lasting peace".

In December 2016 the US president-elect Donald Trump said “the United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes”. Later, in his interview with “The Times” D. Trump suggested he would agree with easing some of the sanctions against Russia in exchange for a disarmament deal with Moscow.
