Xi Jinping calls to creation of solid natuonal defense and powerful armed forces in China
Almaty. July 28. Silkroadnews - General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for the building of strong armed forces through military reform, reports the Xinhua news agency.
Xi presided over a group study seminar of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, which focused on national defense and military reform.
He called the reform drive "a comprehensive and revolutionary change," and said obstacles and policy issues that may hold back reform measures must be addressed so as to build a strong armed forces commensurate with China's international status.
By 2020, advances should be made in reforming the leadership and management system, as well as the joint battle command system, Xi said, citing the timetable outlined in the reform plan.
The Chinese leader also made the remarks on Wednesday during an inspection of the army's headquarters ahead of the 89th anniversary of the founding of the PLA on Aug. 1. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on the ground force of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to transform and build itself into a "mighty, modernized, new-style" military force.
Extending greetings to all soldiers and officers on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the CMC, Xi urged the PLA army general command to ensure reform and rule of law to strengthen the armed forces under the new circumstances of information age.
