Xi Jinping ordered government to help the victims of tornado

Almaty. June 24. Silkroadnews – Chinese President Xi Jinping has instructed the Government to take all necessary measures to assist the victims of the storm that hit a number of areas of eastern Jiangsu province of China on Thursday, Chinese media reported.

“Authorities must make their utmost efforts to reduce casualties and facilitate resettlement of those affected by the extreme weather,” media quoted Xi Jinping saying.

Downpours, hailstorms and tornado battered parts of Jiangsu province of China on Thursday afternoon. The number of victims in Yancheng city, Jiangsu and other regions amounted to 98 people. The witnesses said, the wind turned the cars, broke trees and tore roofs. The authorities sent to the affected areas the humanitarian aid, including about a thousand tents and two thousand beds.

According to meteorologists, in some areas gusts reached 35 m/s. The current tornado in Yancheng has become the worst since 1966.
