Almaty. November 9. Silkroadnews - Canada for the first time lost to China the place of the first trading partner of the US, reported RBC.
"The data of US Department of Commerce for the first three quarters of 2015 indicates that China surpassed Canada to become the largest trading partner of the US - the first time since 1985, when the Department of Commerce started keeping such statistics. From January to September, trade between the US and China amounted to $441.56 billion, while with Canada to $438.1 billion", - says the publication.
In comparison with January-September 2014 the trade turnover between the US and Canada fell by almost 12% (or $57.5 billion). But with China, on contrast, grew by 4% (or $15.7 billion). Thus, China now accounts for 15.5% of the total foreign trade of the United States, and Canada - 15.3%.
Meanwhile, US exports to China still seriously inferior imports: only $84 billion versus $357.5 billion. The trade deficit for Washington amounts to $273.5 billion (versus $252.3 billion a year earlier).
Analysts connect the drop of Canadian share due to the decrease of oil prices. The country is the fifth largest oil producer in the world, and the bulk of it's oil is exported to the US by pipeline and rail tank cars.
According to analysts, the volume of supply is maintained, but oil prices are falling, which pulls down earnings of Canada on energy exports.
