“Despite the continuous increase in drug production in Afghanistan, with, in fact, industrial scale of production, through the joint efforts we have succeeded in reducing the number of drugs entering the territory of CSTO states”, media quoted I. Zubov saying after the meeting of the coordination council of the heads of the CSTO competent agencies on combatting illegal drug trafficking in Minsk.
“As a result of strengthening the border security and measures taken at the distant approaches and drug traffic routes from Afghanistan, including operational support and joint activities, the volume of drugs coming to our territory has decreased”, he added.
According to I. Zubov, such a decrease is confirmed by criminal statistics and data on the number of drug addicts.
He also said, the threat of drug trafficking from Afghanistan still remains, though “the situation as a whole has stabilized”.
“The major focus to be made to eliminate or, at least, reduce the activity of the organized criminal groups specializing in drug trafficking”, the deputy head of the Interior Ministry added.
