12 thousand of prisoners can be released under amnesty in Tajikistan

Almaty. August 18. Silkroadnews – 12 thousand of prisoners can be released under amnesty in Tajikistan, TajikTA reported.

«As a result of an amnesty in honor of the 25th anniversary of country's independence 12 thousand of prisoners can be released», press service of the head of the state informed.

The draft law proposed by the country's president Emomali Rahmon provides for exemption from criminal liability and punishment for perpetrators of crimes, whose criminal cases are in the stage of preliminary hearings by bodies of inquiry, investigation or courts.

Thus, the release is considered for women, minors, men over 55, disabled persons of group I, II and III, as well as prisoners suffering from cancer, tuberculosis, coronary heart diseases.

Participants of the Great Patriotic War, those who fought on the territory of other States, received injuries as a result of the Chernobyl accident, honorees of state awards of the USSR, the Tajik SSR and foreign citizens can be considered for release as well.

Subject to release are also those who committed misappropriation of funds or embezzlement, pursuant to compensation of damage.
