Beijing. Jul 25. Silkroadnews - Archaeologists have discovered 136 tombs dating back to reign of the Eastern Zhou dynasty (770-256 B.C.) in eastern Chinese province of Shandong, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports referring to Xinhua.
The cemetery is located in Dahan Village of Tengzhou City. Excavations of the cemetery have been conducted since October last year. To date, 100 small and 36 large and medium-sized tombs have been discovered, of which scientists extracted more than 800 artifacts, including items of jade, bronze, ceramic and bone, the report said.
“Based on the size of the tombs, distribution and number of burial objects, the large and medium-sized tombs might belong to nobles. Their nationalities haven't been identified yet,” said archaeologist Liu Yanchang.
Liu noted, the largest tomb, belonging to a person of the highest social status, is located on an area of 40 square meter. It includes five bodies entombed alive with the owner.
