20% of Tajikistan’s agricultural products get spoiled due to lack of vegetable stores, the steering committee states

Almaty. April 22. Silkroadnews – In Tajikistan, almost 20% of agricultural products become spoiled as there are no greeneries to keep them under due storage conditions, such an opinion was expressed by the chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan Kodiri Kosim, TajikTA reports.  

The head of the committee said about the export potential of the country’s agricultural products. He complained, that despite the fact that Tajikistan produces more than 3.5 thousand tons of fruits and vegetables, including melons, grapes and potatoes, a year, nearly 15-20% of the whole agricultural production volume get spoiled as the country experiences a deficit of greeneries, vegetable storage warehouses, cold rooms and modern technological lines for agricultural products processing.

He also noted the country could export its vegetables to the Emirates.

“Tajikistan could export to the UAE our dried fruit and processed vegetables,” he said reporting that the total volume of trade between Tajikistan and the UAE reached more than $43 million in 2015, including $1.6 million of export and $41.5 million of import.

“Within 2007-2015 the UAE investors injected into Tajikistan $159.3 million, of which $72.7 million are the direct investments and $86.7 million – a loan provided by the UAE enterprises and companies attracted,” the head of the committee said.
