23-fold rise in energy tariffs over last 20 years in Kyrgyzstan
Bishkek. May 26. Silkroadnews – Energy tariffs have risen by 23 times within last 20 years in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the observer council of Transparency Initiative of Fuels and Energy Complex that was created by the Ministry of energy and industry of Kyrgyzstan. However, energy sector is not consistently financed and its services are of limited reliability and poor quality.
Observer council notices that every hike in energy tariff was accompanied by the loud slogans about insufficient resources for up-keeping and modernisation of energy facilities.
“The statements about chronic lack of resources needed for timely modernisation and fixing of energy facilities with reference to low tariffs are not sufficiently persuasive as no anti-embezzlement measures were undertaken within the sector”, experts think.
