Almaty. September 4. Silkroadnews – Over the next four years the Afghan government will allocate S6 billion to the air force development, Afghanistan’s president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
The statement was made during a visit to the eastern province of Lagham, where the head of state visited the 201 Selab Military Corps.
Meeting with military personnel, Ashraf Ghani said with the new U.S. strategy in Afghanistan, the Resolute Support mission increased assistance to the Afghan security forces, Pajhwok news agency reported.
To remind, on Sunday the president went to the eastern provinces of the country to assess the security situation on the ground.
In late July, “Voice of America” became aware of a four-year plan to strengthen the Afghan Air Force to the total cost of $7 billion. The funds are expected to be allocated to raise the number of combat aircraft in Afghanistan’s Air Force, as well as to carry out pilots training.
Currently the Afghan Air Force fighting vehicles has 120 units. Some of them are light helicopters and old Soviet aircraft. The Air Force also includes light Brazilian aircraft, which were delivered to Afghanistan recently and mainly carry out operational flights.
The U.S. military representatives say that their goal is to create such air forces in Afghanistan that would be able to fully and independently carry out air support operations of the security forces.
