$70 million allocated the Islamic Bank to Tajikistan for the development of the project CASA-1000

Almaty. October 12. Silkroadnews - The Islamic Development Bank will lend Tajikistan $70 million for implementation of CASA-1000 project, reported TajikTA on Monday.
This loan agreement was signed on October 9 in the city of Lima (Peru) by Minister of Finance of Tajikistan Abdusalom Kurboniyon and IDB President Ahmad Mohamed Ali.
In addition, it is planned to sign agreements with the United States Agency for International Development in the amount of $7.5 million and the UK Department for International Development in the amount of $38.5 million.
Thus, the total amount of credit and grant funds for the implementation of the Tajik section of the CASA-1000 project will be $351 million, and the contribution of the Government of Tajikistan in the project will amount to $15 million.
Recall goal of CASA-1000 project - the organization of the export of surplus electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in the summer to Pakistan and Afghanistan. This project contributes to the development of electricity trading arrangements and the creation of a regional electricity market in Central Asia and South Asia (CASAREM).
A major component of this initiative is the development of cross-border transmission system linking the country to facilitate the transfer of surplus electricity from one region to another.
The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
