$700 million to modernize the Nurek hydropower plant in Tajikistan
Almaty. August 12. Silkroadnews – Modernization of the Nurek hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan requires around $700 million, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reported.
“To modernize the Nurek hydropower plant planned to be carried out in two stages it will require around $700 million”, the participants of high-level conference on modernization of the Nurek hydroelectric power station held in Dushanbe on Friday concluded.
The participants, among them there were Tajikistan’s government members and the invited experts, noted, the reconstruction shall provide for replacement of all the 9 units and 6 autotransformers of the power plant, as well as works on strengthening the dam and water disposal structures.
The agency reminds, the Nurek hydroelectric power station, which construction began back in 1961, is located on the Vakhsh River. The power station is equipped with 9 hydroelectric units with a total capacity of 3 thousand MW, the first hydroelectric generator was put into operation in 1972, the last - in 1979.
