95 tonnes of Afghan drugs were transited through Central Asia in 2013
Astana. May 13. Silkroadnews – 95 tonnes of Afghan illicit drugs were transitted through Central Asia in 2013, as the UNODC Senior legal adviser in Central Asia, Olga Zudova, stated. The statement was made at the 1st working seminar on mutual legal assistance to the countries located along Northern Afghanistan drug trafficking routes.
She says that only 2% of all trafficked heroine and 5-6% of all trafficked from Afghanistan opium was seized in Central Asia in 2013.
“1 kg of 70% heroine costs USD 3 000 in Afghanistan, its prices rises to USD 10 000 in Kazakhstan and USD 22 000 in the Russian Federation”, she explained.
Olga Zudova noticed that there is currently a ban on export of certain chemical components that can be used for drug production to Afghanistan. One of them is acetic anhydride.
“Our experts estimated that 630 tonnes of acetic anhydride was required to produce 421 tonnes of Afghan heroine in 2013”, she concluded.
