Almaty. April 18. Silkroadnews – China has set a lower threshold for bribe or public funds embezzlement, for which a sentence of death may be imposed, at the level of 3 million yuan (about $463 thousand), the joint statement released by the Supreme People’s Court and Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the PRC informs, TASS reports.
For the cases of corruption, the law enforcement agencies recommend also to take into account the seriousness of the offense and the degree of its negative consequences.

“In case of mitigating circumstances provided by the law, the defendant may be sentenced to death with suspended execution of sentence for two years,” the decision says.

Since 2015 China’s Criminal Law does not specify the amount of bribes or embezzled public funds carrying the death penalty.

The decree shall clarify the relevant provisions of criminal law.

The campaign against corruption started in the country in 2012-2013 when the “fifth generation” of leaders headed by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping came to power.
