Almaty. November 30. Silkroadnews - A suspect in Ningbo explosion has been detained in China, China Daily reported.
“A suspect has been detained in connection with Sunday’s deadly explosion in Ningbo, Zhejiang province. The authorities said that the careless disposal of explosive substances could have led to the explosion,” the report said.
It is noted the explosion occurred near a septic tank, where a truck with illegally manufactured explosives was parked. Explosive substances, including aluminum powder and barium nitrate, were delivered to Ningbo from Liaoning Province. The truck has been parked from 3 p.m. on Saturday. Materials that belonged to a man surnamed Shan, were made in the city of Fuyang in the neighboring province of Anhui.
In Liaoning, the police issued a warrant for Shan’s arrest as early as 25 October. He was suspected of illegal production of explosives and trade with such materials. Shan was detained by the police at 9 pm on Monday in the village of Panqiao of Huangshi, Hubei Province, where he was hiding.
According to the police, the 33-year-old suspect acknowledged he delivered explosives to Ningbo to hide them from the Liaoning police.
Reportedly, Shan asked his relatives in Ningbo to take a truck with dangerous materials and park it at a disposal site. Some explosives were destroyed on Saturday evening. At around 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, the destruction of illegal explosives continued and in about 15 minutes an explosion occurred. Two people were killed, dozens were wounded, two people reported missing, though recent information suggests they have been killed.
“The police ruled out the possibility that the deadly explosion had been planned. The blast smashed nearby cars and severely damaged surrounding buildings, affecting hundreds of residents,” the publication reads.
