About 90% of drugs transits through Kyrgyzstan, the rest remains in the country, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports
Almaty. February 8. Silkroadnews – Hard drugs volume coming in Kyrgyzstan grows. The statement was made by the Head of the MIA department Estebek Jumabekov, KyrTAG reports.
“The study of the situation in Kyrgyzstan confirms the trend of annual increase in the amount of hard drugs incoming. About 90% of drugs pass in transit through our country, and less than 15% remain in Kyrgyzstan,” - he said at the press conference on Monday.
According to him, the drugs are later got over from Kyrgyzstan via 4 routes - Kyzyl-Arta route, covering highway Khorog-Osh and the surrounding areas, bordering on the Murghab district of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan; Altyn-Mazaorskiy route having its origins from the Rushan highlands and then passing through the gorge of Zaalaiyskiy Range to the Chon-Alay Valley of Kyrgyzstan; Batken route, including the mountain paths used for the transition from Dzhergetalskiy and Garm regions of Tajikistan; Hudzhantskiy (formerly –Leninabadskiy) route covering all the highways from Lyailyak district and adjacent border zones of Uzbekistan toward the Osh direction.
“Each of the areas is divided into multiple channels and smuggling routes through the difficult-to-reach alpine passes,” - said E. Zhumabekov.
