ACEAN to conclude a non-aggression pact with China as soon as possible

Almaty. August 2. Silkroadnews – The member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) want to conclude a non-aggression pact with China as soon as possible, the Philippine newspaper SunStar reported.
“Southeast Asia’s top diplomats said they will seek talks “as soon as possible” on a proposed nonaggression pact with China aimed at preventing clashes in the disputed South China Sea”, the statement said on Wednesday.
An initial draft of the joint communiqué, which will be issued by the foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations consisting of 10 countries, is said to request to initiate negotiations on the so-called “code of conduct in the disputed waters”. With this, China claims full rights on strategic waterways.
According to the publication, the main topics of discussion at the annual meeting in Manila to start on Saturday, will be territorial disputes, missile launches by North Korea and growth of Islamic radicalism.
