Beijing. June 1. Silkroadnews - The Afghanistan Network for Combating Trafficking in Persons (ANTCIP) will work together with USAID and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) of the United Nations to strengthen the country’s capacity to combat the slave trade, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
“Trafficking in persons is a serious concern in Afghanistan. Strengthening the capacity of national NGOs to help the Afghan government in effective implementation of the new Law to combat trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants is the key purpose of this network,” IOM mission head in Afghanistan Lawrence Hart said.
ANTCIP will also inform the public about the new Trafficking in Persons Act adopted in 2017 and ensure that the government of Afghanistan enforces the law.
At a regional NGO forum in Dushanbe, Tajikistan in June 2017, Afghan NGOs working to prevent trafficking and assist victims of the slave trade agreed to coordinate and consolidate efforts to combat trafficking in persons. The forum initiated the process of creating a national network. The network will share information and cooperate with countries bordering Afghanistan to eliminate trade across international borders.
