Afghanistan’s potential as major oil and gas exporter – Deputy Governor of Faryab
Kabul. March 14. Silkroadnews – Afghanistan can become a prominent oil and gas exporter in the region, if investments are to be made into Faryab fields development, the local authorities claim.
The deputy Governor of the Province, Abdul Sattar Baras believes that the field can not only satisfy local energy needs but also can create an excellent export opportunity, “Lemar” TV Channel.
Besides oil and gas, the province is rich in iron, salt, gypsum, coal and marble, extraction of which is not under development. Some of those fields are being developed illegally, as the Governor added. This is why it is important for Government to take it under control.
In 2011, Government estimated the value of its natural resources at USD 3 trillion. However, it remains a challenge to take economic advantage of it due to the lack of secure transportation system of minerals from the mines.
