Almaty. November 14. Silkroadnews - Talks with representatives of the Taliban movement in Dubai scheduled for early November have been canceled as the UAE denied visas for Taliban representatives, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
Together with representatives of Afghanistan and other countries, members of the Taliban representative office in Qatar were to participate in the talks, but the organization of the meeting has been accompanied with obstacles.
Anonymous sources close to the issue believe that the negotiations were canceled in particular, due to the ongoing tension between Qatar and a number of Arab countries in the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates.
Commenting on the reports on the cancellation of the talks Taliban spokesman said the Taliban had not agreed to attending the Dubai meeting, Tolonews reported.
At present, the Afghan observers believe the meeting has not been canceled, but just postponed, and may be held at the end of November in the territory of another state. The issue of Taliban delegates’ part in the event has not yet been decided.
The prospect of new talks on the peace process, with participation of foreign states, has provoked a patchy response from the public, in particular, a member of the Kabul provincial council Naqibullah Hashimi expressed the opinion that previous meetings on peaceful dialogue, with participation of the United States or Russia, did not bring the desired results, thus, effectiveness of such activities remains questionable.
