Afghanistan to block all online activity of terrorist and extremist groups
Almaty. July 5. Silkroadnews –The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technologies of Afghanistan has started work on blocking the online activities of terrorist and extremist groups, American news portal VOA reported.
“Afghanistan says it will begin blocking all online activity and websites linked to terror groups or extremists later this week, under terms of a cybercrime bill the government signed into law last month. The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology said it is gathering a list of websites linked to terror groups or their supporters, based on information from the National Intelligence Directorate (NDS) and the Ministry of Information and Culture”, the publication reads.
The blocking, as reported, to start on coming Saturday.
With this though, the Afghan non-governmental organization Nai, specializing in protecting freedom of speech in Afghanistan, criticized the new law on cybercrimes as one restricting freedom of expression. The law contains 27 articles stipulating conditions for cyber-activity prohibition. This is the first attempt to systematize the concepts of cybercrime and violations over the 15 years of rapid Internet development in the country. Currently, with a population of 32 million people, Afghanistan’s technical capacity allow providing Internet access for 6 million people.
