Afghanistan to build 3.5 thousand km of railways up to 2030

Almaty. December 6. Silkroadnews – Afghanistan has decided to build about 3,5 thousand km of railways up to 2030, AfTAG reports.

According to the head of the country’s railways administration, the railway construction has already brought more than $140 million revenues.

In his turn, minister of public works Mahmood Bligh said that Afghanistan’s railways administration is a member of the International Union of Railways, thus, there are no obstacles to freight and passenger transport.

For the railway Atamyrat-Imamnazar-Akin there is an increase in turnover of commercial goods expected to reach 1 million tonnes in 2017, and up to 3 million tonnes in 2018.

M. Bligh also said, with the extension of this branch to Andkhoy the cargo turnover will reach 5 million tonnes annually.

The Afghan Minister of Public Works also added, at present there are also three trade and transit agreements with Tajikistan on cooperation in the field of railway transport and highways ready to be signed. It was decided these agreements will be signed in the near future.
