Afghanistan to register voters from April 4 to August
Beijing. March 7. Silkroadnews - According to the Independent Election Commission (IEC), the process of registration of voters in Afghanistan will starts on April 4 and last till early August, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
At present, the IEC is preparing to hold parliamentary balloting and elections to the county councils. Initially, the voting was scheduled for July 18 this year, yet the current plans for voters registration scheduled to complete on August 3 do not fit into the deadline.
To remind, the new chairman of the IEC Gulajan Abdul Badi Sayad had already warned the commission lost time due to prolonged personnel adjustments and could postpone the voting date.
Registration of voters will be carried out throughout 7,300 sites, which will start their work in schools and mosques to avoid interference in the process. 24 sites are located within the troubled areas, thus, the additional efforts by the law enforcement agencies are required to ensure their operation security. This year the paper identity cards will be used for voters’ registration, as waiting for the electronic IDs release would further slow the process. The identity cards will be stamped for the citizens to be allowed to vote on election day.
