Agricultural research laboratory to be created in Kandahar, Afghanistan

Almaty. August 23. Silkroadnews – The U.S. will establish agricultural research laboratory under the Afghan State Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology in Kandahar, AfTAG reports.

The project will be implemented with financial support by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). A special demonstration farm, where students and other agricultural workers could gain practical skills in cultivation of wheat, vegetables, orchards, as well as in due crops treatment, is planned to be created under laboratory.

The new center is to train more than 15 thousand farmers in the next two years.

Since 2002 USAID has invested about $17 billion into development projects in Afghanistan. The $125-million program of agricultural development of the southern provinces funded by USAID has been carried out in Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul and Uruzgan since 2013.
