Airbus opens A330 plant in China
Almaty. September 20. Silkroadnews – Airbus opens the A330 jet plant in China, the Malaysian newspaper “The Star” reported.
“Airbus SE on Wednesday opened its Chinese completion plant for A330 jets, with hopes that an increased presence in the world’s fastest growing aviation market would help boost demand for the firm’s profitable but ageing wide-body jets,” the report said.
It is noted that the largest aerospace company of Europe marked the opening of the center in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin with the delivery of the first A330 aircraft to the customer - Tianjin Airlines.
The center is a joint venture between China’s aviation corporation and the investment company of the Tianjin Free Trade Zone. Building of a joint venture was agreed during President Xi Jinping’s visit to France in 2014.
“Airbus already has a final assembly line for single-aisle A320 jets in Tianjin, which began operations in 2008. At the centre just opened, Airbus will perform tasks such as aircraft painting, cabin installations as well as flight tests on aircraft received from Airbus’ final assembly line in Toulouse, France,” the report reads.
The main competitor of Airbus - Boeing - also seeks to expand its presence in China, competing for orders. Boeing said that together with planemaker Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China Ltd. will build a plant to roll off Boeing 737 production line in eastern China.
