Airlines en masse cancel flights to Israel
Almaty. July 23. Silkroadnews - Airlines en masse cancel flights to Israel, reports Israeli media.
According to the report, two Turkish Airway companies - Turkish Airlines and Pegasus - canceled flights from Istanbul to Tel Aviv, following the example of the three European and two American airlines. The flight to Tel Aviv was also turned back by Russian company Transaero.
Meanwhile, earlier European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has advised all European airlines to cancel flights to Israel for security reasons. Turkish airlines have followed this recommendation, despite the fact that it's not part of the EASA.
According to media reports, on July 21, a rocket landed on the outskirts of the international airport Ben Gurion. During the fall of the rocket, two people were injured. On July 21 the UN Security Council urgently discussed resumption of fire in the Gaza Strip. During the meeting, it called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
As of July 21, the total number of victims of the Israeli operation "Enduring rock" in the Gaza Strip has reached 501 people, injured more than 3,100 people.
On July 17, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the army to launch a ground operation in the Gaza Strip. In a statement, the Israeli government stated that operation is necessary for cleaning tunnels and is not aimed at overthrowing Hamas. Decision to start the operation was taken 10 days after a rocket attack in Israel and Hamas refusal to stop the escalation of the conflict.
According to official statistics, since the beginning of operation "Enduring rock" (July 7, 2014) at Israeli towns from the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula were released more than one thousand missiles. Approximately 900 of them exploded in Israel, injuring about 10 people. In response, Israeli planes and ships have caused more than 1,600 strikes against terrorists firing positions.
