Almaty. April 9. Silkroadnews –  As Almaty Zooopens its 77th seasons, it offers its animals for guardianship, as the Zoo’s administrator Murat Muturganov informs.
“It is some form of social responsibility. Any city resident can become a guardian of an animal s/he likes. While the contract is enforceable, the guardian can visit the zoo free of charge and take pictures with the animal. That is, if the animal is not dangerous. It is even possible to give names of animal’s babies if they were born during the guardianship period”, Mister Muturganov says.
Guardianship costs vary from USD 110 a year for a swan to USD 2200 a year for an elephant. One Almaty lady has already became a guardian for a baby lama.
Almaty Zoo spreads at 21 sq. ha. It hosts 6 000 species of 341 kinds. The zoo is visited by 500 000 people annually.
