Almaty. September 13. Silkroadnews – Amazon has opened nearly 1 thousand vacancies in China, the U.S. online portal Arkansas Online reported.
“Amazon.com Inc. is hiring by the hundreds in China to fill jobs ranging from Internet software engineers to designers for Alexa, positioning the company to recoup some of the market share it lost to Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. in the world's largest online shopping arena,” the report said.
It is noted that Amazon published a list of almost 400 open vacancies in China on its career website and more than 900 on LinkedIn. They include the positions of senior executives, heads of the lending department, store managers, and others.
According to the publication, Amazon has a secondary role in the Chinese e-commerce market, dominated by Alibaba and JD.Com. But, like other U.S. companies Facebook Inc. and Google, it is not going to abandon the most populous nation in the world, despite the strongest domestic competitors and restrictions the PRC imposes for foreign companies.
It is reported that the market share of Amazon in China continues to decline.
“Its sales represented just 1.1 percent of China’s online gross merchandise value in 2015, and by 2016 that figure had dropped to 0.8 percent,” the publication reads.
Yet Amazon uses its reputation to become the most attractive supplier of safe and quality products to the growing middle class in China. It was reported that in the fourth quarter of 2016 Amazon controlled 7% of China’s cross-border trade and at the end of 2016 began to provide free shipping services to China.
In the first quarter of this year the volume of cross-border sales of the company was 11 times higher than two years ago. In 2016, Amazon imported 14,885 freight containers to China, this year their number is expected to reach 20,000. In the second quarter of 2017, Amazon’s share in the Chinese market is expected to grow to 7.6%.
